Lawyers and attornyes need a license from the State in which they want to work. To obtain a license, people need to get a college degree and then go to law school for 3 years. Competition for admission to most law schools is intense anf then finally lawyers must pass a test called the bar examination.
Lawyers need to keep on learning about changes in the law even after they start working. In most States from US lawyers take classes from time to time.
Most lawyers are in private practice, concentrating on civil or criminal law. Attorneys dealing with civil law assist their clients with contracts, mortgages, titles, litigation, wills, trusts, and leases.
Other lawyers handle only criminal-concentrating on particular causes or public-interest cases-civil and choosing cases that might have an impact on the way law is applied.
Sometimes lawyers are employed full time by a single client.
